Caleb’s Balm – A Breathable Everyday Barrier
I wanted to create a balm that focuses on barrier support, not just moisturizing.
Baby Caleb drools a lot, and his neck was constantly irritated from staying damp and the friction from bibs.
Instead of absorbing like a cream, this 2oz balm is designed to sit on the skin as a gentle, breathable barrier, helping protect delicate areas from drool and everyday irritation.
Many petroleum-based products work by fully sealing the skin, which can sometimes trap moisture underneath — especially in drooly areas and skin folds.
This balm was formulated differently, using ingredients that create a lighter barrier that allows airflow, helping protect the skin without locking in dampness.
This has been working out beautifully for Caleb, especially under his neck — because he drools nonstop and I don’t always bathe him every night 🤍
Perfect for:
• drooly necks
• skin folds
• areas that stay damp
• also makes an amazing jumbo lip balm that won’t get lost
My new FAVORITE oil is oat oil which is a key ingredient in this formula. It’s incredibly gentle and nourishing for delicate baby skin.
From one mama to another—sometimes the goal isn’t to fix skin overnight, but to protect it while it does what it’s meant to do 🤍
Why a barrier works better than a moisturizer under a baby’s neck
Under a baby’s neck, the issue usually isn’t dry skin — it’s constant moisture.
Drool, milk, sweat, and friction from bibs create a damp environment that breaks down the skin barrier. When you apply a moisturizing cream, it’s designed to absorb into the skin. That can be great for dryness — but in an area that stays wet, it doesn’t solve the root problem.
A barrier balm works differently:
• It sits on top of the skin instead of absorbing
• It creates a protective layer between the skin and drool/moisture
• It helps reduce friction from bibs and folds
• It keeps moisture from sitting directly on the skin for long periods
In areas like the neck (or any skin fold), protection matters more than hydration.
That’s why a breathable barrier is often more effective than repeated moisturizing in drooly zones — it shields the skin instead of feeding moisture into an already damp area.
